Midwest ATC Service, Inc. seeks highly responsible and professional candidates to perform the duties of an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS). Work involves the responsibility for planning, directing, and coordinating the air traffic control system for the airport and surrounding airspace in accordance with FAA regulations. The work is performed with a high degree of independence under the overall supervision of the Air Traffic Manager. Domestic Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS)
Description: The ATCS controls air traffic on and within the vicinity of the airport according to established procedures and policies to prevent collisions and minimize delays arising from traffic congestion. The incumbent is responsible for the safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic through the nation’s airspace. ATCS duties include:
- Answering radio calls from arriving and departing aircraft.
- Issuing landing/takeoff instructions.
- Issuing information such as runway to use, wind velocity and direction, visibility, taxiing instructions, and pertinent data on other aircraft operating in the vicinity.
- Issuing air traffic clearances.
- Providing advice based on their own observations and information from the National Weather Service, IFR control facilities, flight service stations, pilots, and other sources.
- Taking and disseminating weather observations at Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Station (LAWRS).
- Transferring control of aircraft to receiving facilities when aircraft leave their airspace, and receiving control of aircraft coming into their airspace.
- Operating various types of equipment such as: radios, telephones, interphones, computer systems, radar, recording systems, weather equipment, light guns, airport/runway lighting systems, and backup equipment.
- Alerting airport emergency crews and other designated personnel when aircraft are having flight difficulties.
- Coordinating with and issuing instructions to airport vehicles and personnel.
- Maintaining and disseminating records of daily operations
- Conduct OJT-Instruction, as required

Airfield Operation Specialist
Description: The designee is responsible to monitor and coordinate airfield and aircraft activities in order to provide a safe, efficient, and effective airfield environment for aircraft operations. The designee performs airfield inspections and checks for safety and compliance with planning and design criteria. Plans, organizes and directs airfield activities to include airfield construction/repairs, airfield driving program, ice/snow removal operations, Bird/Wildlife control, etc. Procures, maintains, and produces information on safe operation of aircraft through the national and international airspace system such as Flight Information Publications, aeronautical charts and maps, NOTAM, local airfield and navigational aid status, and weather information. Process domestic and international flight plans. Coordinates with base agencies to meet aircrew requirements for billeting, messing, refueling, transportation, and transient aircraft maintenance.
Education: Graduate of an approved DoD/FAA Air Traffic Control (ATC)/Airfield Managers course.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience to include the following: Duties including coordination between air-traffic control and maintenance personnel, dispatching; implementing airfield safety procedures; monitoring and maintaining flight records, and applying knowledge of weather information. Managing wildlife on and around airfield grounds. Implementing bird aircraft strike hazard procedures. Coordinating airfield maintenance and construction projects. Coordinating hazardous cargo and live fire devices.
Airfield Operations Specialists – Shift Lead/Training Manager
Description: The designee is responsible for maintaining situational awareness of airfield activities and overall responsibility for AMOPS section while on duty in order to provide a safe, efficient, and effective airfield environment for aircraft operations. The designee performs airfield inspections and checks for safety and compliance with planning and design criteria. Plans, organizes and directs airfield activities to include airfield construction/repairs, airfield driving program, ice/snow removal operations, Bird/Wildlife control, etc. Procures, maintains, and produces information on safe operation of aircraft through the national and international airspace system such as Flight Information Publications, aeronautical charts and maps, NOTAM, local airfield and navigational aid status, and weather information. Process domestic and international flight plans. Coordinates with base agencies to meet aircrew requirements for billeting, messing, refueling, transportation, and transient aircraft maintenance.
Education: Graduate of an approved DoD/Airfield Managers course or equivalent and aviation related experience as aircrew/dispatcher/flight follower with a 14 CFR Part 121 or 14 CFR Part 135 operator.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience to include the following: Duties including supervision and coordination between air-traffic control and maintenance personnel, dispatching, implementing and enforcing airfield safety procedures; monitoring and maintaining flight records; applying knowledge of weather information, flight plan processing, flight following procedures, tracking aircraft movements, managing wildlife on and around airfield grounds, and implementing bird aircraft strike hazard procedures. Coordinating airfield maintenance and construction projects.
Airfield Operations Specialists – Airfield Manager/Deputy Airfield Manager
Description: The designee is responsible for the overall management airfield management facilities and services to provide a safe, efficient, and effective airfield environment for aircraft operations. The designee also provides direct supervision and management of all personnel working in AM. Develop parking plans. The designee shall have experience in airport master planning and all airfield management functions. The designee performs airfield inspections and checks for safety and compliance with planning and design criteria. Plans, organizes and directs airfield activities to include airfield construction/repairs, airfield driving program, ice/snow removal operations, Bird/Wildlife control, etc. procures, maintains, and produces information on safe operation of aircraft through the national and international airspace system such as Flight Information Publications, aeronautical charts and maps, NOTAM, local airfield and navigational aid status, and weather information. Process domestic and international flight plans. Coordinates with base agencies to meet aircrew requirements for billeting, messing, refueling, transportation, and transient aircraft maintenance.
Education: Graduate of an approved DoD/Advanced Airfield Managers course or equivalent.
Experience: Four (4) years of Airfield Management Experience and a minimum of Six (6) years of total airfield operations experience. The Deputy Airfield Manager shall have shall have Three (3) years of Airfield Management Experience. Both require experience including the following: Duties including all airport management and coordination between air-traffic control and maintenance personnel; supervising airfield maintenance and construction projects. Generate dispatching; implementing airfield safety procedure; generating facility duty schedules to support airfield operating hours. Coordinating hazardous cargo and live fire device movements. Conduct airfield inspections in accordance with AFI 13-204v3. Has documented knowledge or experience with ICAO procedures. Experience implementing airfield safety procedures; generating and facilitating airfield flight line drivers program. Managing local flight information publications. Validating and publishing NOTAMs.
Air Traffic Control Specialist, Radar Approach Control and Control Tower
Description: The designee is responsible for the safe and expeditious flow of air traffic within their designated control airspace in accordance with ICAO and FAA 7110.65 regulator guidance. Rules of separation must be applied to achieve the required separation as outlined in FAA manuals and orders. The designee will coordinate with various controllers and personnel to relay information which pertains to the aircraft and in the interest of safety of flight including emergency information. The designee will be familiar with radar operations and apply the required separation of aircraft. Along with controlling aircraft the designee must be able to process flight plans, control approach, departure and arrival procedures. The designee will have a full working knowledge of RADAR/Manual approach control operations, control tower and flight planning.
Education: Graduate of an approved DoD or FAA ATC course.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience, One (1) year of experience must be from performing in a like type facility. Knowledge of ATC rules, regulations, and techniques. Shall hold one of the following radar certifications (Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) certificate, FAA Credential, FAA or DoD training records).
ATCALS Technician
Description: The designee shall be qualified to install, sustain, troubleshoot, and repair standard ground radar and airfield systems and equipment platforms to include: air traffic control, weather, ground aircraft control and warning radar systems; air traffic control radio; meteorological and navigational aid systems. Resolves installation, repair, and modification problems associated with NAVAIDS equipment. Employs line-of-sight and tropospheric scatter techniques. Conducts tests to restore and maintain systems. Uses layout drawings, schematics, and pictorial diagrams to solve maintenance problems and ensure equipment is properly positioned. Analyzes construction and operating characteristics of equipment to determine source of malfunction. Performs intricate alignment and calibration procedures to ensure maximum operating efficiency. Reviews and ensures compliance with maintenance management publications and procedures.
Enforces safety standards for system maintenance activities. Checks installed and repaired components for compliance with technical publications. Maintains inspection and maintenance records. Posts entries on maintenance and inspection records. Records meter readings and other pertinent data in equipment logs. Completes maintenance data collection forms. Requisitions, accounts for, and turns in supplies and material.
The designee shall maintain systems are such as DME, ILS, MMLS, MPN-23, UPS, RCSU-2238, TACAN, TRN-44, VOR, RSI/RCI or equivalent monitoring equipment, FMQ-19, FMQ-23, Micro-EARTS, MSCT, NRTD, STARS, STRAP, TDX-2000, MARK IVB, NEXION, Terminal Advisory System (TAS), GPN-22 (PAR), GPN-27(or 20), MPN-25, UPX-37 CM-200, CM-300, GRC-171 & 211, GRR-23/24, PCAS, GRT-21/22, ETVS, Liberty Star, PL-2000DT, PRC-117, RT-1319, TRC-176, URC-200, ATIS, DVRS, TTRS, but not be limited to those listed in Table 6.1. Suites of Systems and Support Equipment.
Education: High School diploma or GED. Relevant Associate’s degree preferred. Formal electronics training such as: military technical training school, vocational college, and/or a four (4) year electronics apprentice program with experience in electronics equipment the technician will maintain.
Experience:
Level I tech – 4 years of practical experience with equipment the technician will maintain and oversee (recent NAVAIDS experience highly desired).
Level II tech – 6 years of practical experience with equipment the technician will maintain and oversee (recent NAVAIDS experience highly desired)
